Qualify Your Door

Dream Doors and Windows professional installers CAN install decorative glass into your paneled wood or wide panel fiberglass doors. Call 880-7778 for details!

Most entry doors (with few exceptions) are made of wood, steel or fiberglass. Steel and fiberglass entry doors are good candidates for decorative glass inserts. Wide panel fiberglass and wood entry doors require professional modifications. Dream Doors and Windows professional installers have the tools and training to install glass into wide panel fiberglass and wood doors. We do not suggest a non-professional attempt a wide panel fiberglass or wood door installation.

STEP 1.
Count your door hinges. There will either be three (3) hinges, or four (4) hinges. A three (3) hinge door will be a standard height 6' door. A four (4) hinged door will be a considerably taller 8' door. Both can receive glass of varying sizes.

STEP 2.
Open your entry door and measure the actual door width. If it is a 36" door (+ or -), a 34" door (+ or -) or a 32" door (+ or -), you can proceed to the next step. (A 30" or smaller door will not work). See illustration below.

STEP 3.
Determine if you have an exterior door (usually they have a threshold). Simply measure the door thickness. It must measure at least 1 3/4". Interior doors (usually they do not have a threshold) will measure only 1 3/8" thick, and will not accept the glass. See illustration below.

STEP 4.
Now measure the panels located in the center of the entry door from total width to total height. The panels on your entry door may or may not look exactly like the ones illustrated here. All we are concerned about is determining if the measurements fall within range.

  • If the panel width measures approximately 23" (+ or - 1/2") and the panel height measures approximately 65" (+ or - 1/2), you have a standard 6' door.
  • If the panel width measures approximately 23" (+ or - 1/2") and the panel height measures approximately 81" (+ or - 1/2), you have the taller 8' door.
  • If the panel width measures approximately 26" (+ or - 1/2") and the panel height measures approximately 65" (+ or - 1/2), you have either a wide panel 6' fiberglass door or a wood door.
  • If the panel width measures approximately 26" (+ or - 1/2") and the panel height measures approximately 81" (+ or - 1/2), you have a wide panel 8' fiberglass door.

Each of these door descriptions are suitable candidates! Remember, only Dream Doors can install decorative glass inserts into ANY style door that is in good condition! Use the illustration below for measurement placements.

If your entry door's panels are wider than the measurements outlined above, most likely you have an older wood entry door. Only a trained Dream Doors professional can successfully modify the door to receive decorative glass inserts.

CONCLUSION
If your door width is between 32" and 36" (+ or -), measures 1 3/4" thick, and the panel width and height falls within the ranges shown above, then your entry door is a very good candidate for accepting decorative door glass..

We had been looking at French doors for our Florida room at both Home Depot and Lowe's for about eight months. We decided to stop by your showroom two weeks ago. What a selection! We were amazed that your company offered us a far greater selection than those other two stores. We were impressed with the quality in respect to the price. While Home Depot and Lowe's doors were a little less in price, the quality of your hand crafted doors exceeded the value of those cheap doors. Plus, the Dream Doors had features we wanted but was not offered by those other companies. Our installer, Matthew, is a very skilled tradesman and has a great work ethic. He concerned himself with every detail, took great pride in his work and left the area cleaner than how he found it. We recommend to everyone that if value and a great experience is what they want, to look no further than Dream Doors. Dottie and I would not consider anyone else for our doors needs.
